planter box

This has been an interesting little work in progress. Initially we intended to grow herbs indoors for cooking, so we built a big planter box with a little drip tray built into it to catch the extra water and avoid over saturation. But we weren’t getting enough light, so i ordered an led grow lamp online, apparently it was designed for weed, which benefits from being aggressively illuminated, something about stress hormones? well, basil definitely does not benefit from ~2800 microeinsteins (measured from 10cm away). saturating light for photosynthesis = between 100 and 150. (thank my sister for those facts, shes the molecular biologist in the family). As it was built with wheels, it now lives outside on the street. Its the perfect accompaniment for bbqs and cooks for the school across the road make good use of it too.

Future work:
I intend to take the work im doing on the weather station and make it solar powered.
Monitoring soil moisture will enable me to control the watering cycle.
